Homemade lap desk for kids.

With summer well on it's way, a lot of families are going to be traveling.  One of the biggest challenges traveling with kids is keeping them entertained in the car.

My daughter, Rosebud  had been looking at lap desks for her little girl to use on a trip they were making .  Rosebud soon found out that any lap desk with quality was too expensive.

Being the resourceful girl she is (I think she learned a few things from me...lol), she designed her own  darling lap desk for her little girl.

The board was made from several layers of cardboard glued together with a hole cut for the cup. She used contact paper to cover the layered cardboard and then glued a fun,
plastic place mat on top.
If you look inside the cup in the photo below, you can see where Rosebud glued the piece of the place mat that was cut out.

For the cushion, she used some fabric she had on hand, cut it in a rectangle shape and sewed the sides, then filled it with batting.  Afterwards, she glued it to the board and put an edging around the fabric to give it a finished look.

This tutorial is not very detailed,
but hopefully you get the general idea!

  3. Karen, my little granddaughter, Boo, loved it. The cup kept her crayons from rolling allover and Mommy was pleased with the finished product!
