Christmas Advent Calendar

There's something magical about a Christmas Advent Calendar.

Last year I started stocking up on supplies to make a fun CLOTHESLINE countdown for my GRANDkids.  I shopped the after-Christmas sales and got super discounted prices. Most of the items are gift card holders, just right for slipping a piece of candy or small toy in.

Since I was making 3 separate sets, I had to keep within my budget. I also found lots of little toys and fun things to stuff inside each item. I only had a few empty items that I set aside to put candy in. (Just so ya know, I didn't buy the candy until now.)

Cracker Barrel, The Dollar Store, and Wal-Mart were fantastic for finding all the stuff I needed. The only problem was waiting almost an entire year before I could send them out to my GRANDkids.

I found the little clothespins at Wal-Mart in their craft section. The little hangers were from a paper doll set, my kids used to have but didn't use anymore.

This is a photo one of my daughters sent of their Clothesline Advent Calendar...Isn't it darling! She only had a skinny wall to mount hers on so she divided it up into 3 separate sections. My other daughter is going to hang hers in one long clothesline across their fireplace mantle.

Some of the things I stuffed inside were: Santa straws, crayons, note pads, sparkely nail polish for the girls, Hot Wheels cars for the boys, hair clips, etc.

Do you have any good ideas for Advent Calendars?

  1. That is the neatest Advent Calendars I have seen. I will have to remember this for next year. I will try to get lots of little items just like you said and keep in a budget. With 5 grandchildren it will give me a challenge. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I'd like to start that tradition with my daughter. It certainly is magical. I've become a Scrooge of sorts this year, and it's time to bring back that Christmas spirit.
