ABC's of Me

I did this awhile back and wanted to update it for voiceBoks.com
Hope you enjoy!

A – Ancestors - We have traced our family back to 800 AD.  Many of them have left some sort of written story behind.  The connection I feel to them helps me understand who I am and where I came from. Some turned out to be great and some turned out to be a bit shady. :) Ummm, wonder which ones I take after!  LOL

B – Blue - my favorite color.

C - Cabin - It would be so fun to live in a cabin in the woods.

D – Daffodils and Daisies - are my favorite flowers.

E – Eggs - and toast are my favorite breakfast.

F – Family - I love having 11 kids!

G – Grandma’s and Gardening - are the best, so glad I’m one!

H – Holidays - All of them, will find my home decked out with decorations, music, movies, and FUN!

I – Ice cream - is my greatest weakness!

J – Jogging - I dislike jogging (thank goodness I don’t have to do it anymore).

K – Kids - and babies are so delightful to be around!

L  - Lance - is my husband, my best friend, and my CHAMPION!

M – Mormon - I’m so grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  With a living prophet and 12 Apostles to lead us and give us the knowledge God wants us to have in these days!

N – Night crawlers (worms) - My Dad would have us go out in our fields at night with flashlights looking for night crawlers so we could use them when we went fishing.  YUCK!

O – Open - I like to keep my doors and windows open until the snow falls!

P – Patriotic - I'm proud to be an American.  My family has a long history of fighting for freedom.

Q – Quaint - I ♥ things that are quaint...especially cottages.

R – Rosebud - We used to have a Jersey milk cow named Rosebud!

S – Singing - You can catch me singing and humming most anytime of the day!

T – Tree climbing - was my favorite pass time as a girl!

U – Umbrellas - are so fun to have even when it’s not raining!

V – voiceBoks…since joining vB I’ve had some great opportunities to  find my voice (put into words who I am).

W – Wheelchair - I have a hate/love relationship with mine.

X – Xerarch means growing up in dry places, I live in the desert and love to garden. This was Xtra tricky!

Y – Yes, I love this word!

Z – Zemni is a blind mole, I wrote a children’s story about my kids meeting a very impatient and timid zemni (named Gus) in our Sweet Memories Garden.

Alzheimer's Service Missionary

Some of you may already know that I have recently been called to be a Service Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  My specific area for service is helping the local Alzheimer's Association.  One of my main areas of focus is helping people learn how to care for themselves while being a Caregiver for a loved one with Alzheimer's or related illnesses.

Some of the main concerns Caregivers have are:

 Information about available resources
Financial solutions
 Communicating with professionals
 Disease specific information
 Recruiting competent help
Learning care tasks
How to communicate with persons with dementia
     Legal advice

As a volunteer Service Missionary, I will be helping Caregivers learn about these areas of concern.  Since I'm just starting out, I'm not sure exactly how, what, or when I'll be helping, but I'm being trained and will be glad to serve wherever needed!

Ali, from Standing For Something invited me to do an article about being a Service Missionary and the Alzheimer's Association.  I invite you to visit her site and let her know you're visiting from Rise Above Your Limits..... HERE is a direct link to my article.  I'm so thankful to Ali sharing for this with her readers.

One of my goals is to write informative Alzheimer's articles for my blog and also for wikiMommy.com.  Often Mommy's find themselves being Caregivers to their own Mommy's and Daddy's.  I want to be able to help ease their burden by sharing and teaching them ways to care for themselves while caring for their parents.

voiceBoks Is My Favorite

In the past I’ve joined several Mom blog communities only to get lost in the shuffle.  Several months ago I came across voiceBoks, a new and innovative online community for Moms.  I could see a big difference right away.  Events are geared to getting high traffic driven to our personal blogs.  Right away I began getting meaningful comments left on my own blog posts.

When I first began blogging, I learned really fast that high followers don’t always yield lots of good comments on posts. For me the comments that people leave on my articles are very important and voiceBoks is why I’m getting so many continually great comments on my articles.

Because of voiceBoks, my blog followers are growing at a steady pace. With just over 240 GFC followers, my stats show an average of 150 page views daily, comments average about 10-20 per article, my blog is viewed worldwide.

I don’t know a lot about getting my blog visible to the world, but Lexie, founder/owner of voiceBoks does.  I am amazed at the flow of people visiting my site and even more amazed that they even found my site!

voiceBoks is a place I can go and learn about  - blogging, making money on my site, Google+, how to drive traffic to my blog, etc.  Just recently I had a great chat with the founder/owner of voiceBoks, Lexie Lane…how many online community developers take the time to show a personal interest in their members?

voiceBoks is fun for me, because I can drop by and leave a quick note or I can spend more time reading and commenting with the other members.  It’s up to me how much time I spend there…I always come away happy and informed!

If you’re looking for a great community to:
·        Increase your blog stats
·        Give you great How To tutorials
·        Where the members are honestly interested in you and what’s going on in your world

Then this just might be the Place.  I invite you to check us out and if you join, please let them know Becky Jane sent you…

voiceBoks Member of the Week

Today I was awarded the 'Member of the Week' Award
at voiceBoks

Just recently I joined a social networking site called voiceBoks - The Voice of Motherhood.  Immediately I started receiving meaningful comments on my blog posts from other members. What impressed me also was the administrator of voiceBoks, Lexie, has contacted me several times about issues on the site. She is actually concerned about members and asks for our input...which she has implemented.  This is the first community that I've joined that I've actually felt like a part of.  voiceBoks is about anything 'Motherhood'.  I've had the privilege of starting 2 groups:

  • Parenting Teens and Adults - This group focuses mainly on getting and giving advice about raising teenagers and adult children still living at home or away from home.  Please feel free to join and give any input you think would be benifical, or just come for some rejuvination...remember humor is a great way to handle these folks so any funny stories about teens and adult children are appreciated!
  • Gardening/Landscaping - Whether you garden to relieve stress, create beauty or do it for the kids, this is the place to be for sharing and getting ideas!  Come join the fun!
