Guest Post - Mormons and Christianity

Tina from Little Tots ~ Big Ideas is one of my oldest blogging friends!  She is not afraid to stand for what is good and right and I love the way she puts her heart into words!  I invite you to learn about the Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) and then visit her site...let her know you came from Rise Above Your Limits!

I AM A MORMON...AND I AM A CHRISTIAN

Friday night Michael was channel surfing and came across Anderson 360. He was interviewing Dr. Robert Jeffress. He is the senior pastor for First Baptist Dallas.

Dr. Jeffress was talking about his endorsement for Rick Perry as the GOP presidential candidate. He then stated that Mitt Romney was a Mormon; Mormonism was a cult; and Christians should not vote for Mitt Romney.

I was floored when Dr. Jeffress proclaimed Mormons as non Christians. This man was talking about a subject he had obviously not researched and knew little, if anything, regarding the religion.

I am a Mormon and I am a Christian. For those of you who may not know, Mormon is a nickname; it is not the correct name of my church. The proper title is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. How much clearer can it be that we are Christian?

I am Christian in every sense of the word. I believe Jesus Christ is my Savior. I believe the only way to return to Heavenly Father is through Christ. I believe I can only be saved through my Savior.

Dr. Jeffress also alienated Buddhists and Hindus; and he wasn't exactly raving about Catholicism.

Dr. Jeffress did not act in a Christian manner. I think he belittled other religions, trying to place his candidate and himself upon an pedestal.

I hope Rick Perry is considering distancing himself from Dr. Jeffress. I do not think the doctor is helping his cause.

I know recent polls show that almost 25% of Americans would not vote for a Mormon president. This tells me that ignorance and discrimination are still rampant, even in the 21st century.

My Christian beliefs dictate that I do not bash the beliefs of others. Whether you are Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist, etc... I know that most of us have an innate goodness. Each person is striving to live the golden rule, whatever he/she calls it.

If you want to know more about the Mormon church, please do not take the word of Dr. Jeffress. Visit www.lds.org; talk to a Mormon friend or neighbor; or email me at littletotsbigideas@hotmail.com.  I am happy to answer any questions.

Just please don't call me something I am not.  I am a Mormon and I am a Christian.

  1. I am not Mormon, but many years ago, a friend who is Mormon, took me to her church. I love the way Mormons look out for each other and teach healthy ways of eating. Maybe not all the Mormon churches do that, but this one did. If a member was having problems, everyone helped.... If I would ever change my religion, it would be to Mormon. Right now, I am happy where I am.

  3. People tend to bash what they don't understand! I was raised in the Catholic faith...but my parents raised us to respect ALL faiths...This is a country that was built on religious freedom, but for some you have to belong to the "right" faith...I find that really sad!

  5. I agree with Rachel. I have met many people who believe only their faith is right. Thank you for sharing.

  6. I always find it sad when I encounter such close mindedness and the belief that their way is the only way.
I raised my children in the Quaker faith and we encountered this as well.

  7. I have a really good friend and nieghbor who is a Mormon. We take about our faith and what Jesus spoke of in the bible all the time. She is extremely dear to our family and as one of our other nieghbors put it "if anyone is getting in to Heaven at the second coming it's Lidey" She lives out her faith and I have seen very few do so like she and her family does.
