Out Of The Mouths Of Babes

For Mothers Day, I wanted to share with you one of my most humbling moments as a young mother. Everytime I think of it I chuckle, but it also reminds me that I need to be a great Mom, cause the kids are watching...and learning...and teaching!

Once upon a time I was a young mother, my 2 oldest girls were ages 7 and 5. One of their chores was to wash and dry the dishes. Most of the time they did a good job, but once in awhile they would play around and play around until it drove me nuts.  This particular evening was especially trying.  The girls were having fun, too much fun and dishes were not getting done.  I didn't want to spend my evening repeatedly telling them to get the dishes done so we could move on to other things.

Putting on my grump face and my grumpy tone of voice I let the girls know they'd better get to it and NOW!

Not long after, I was in the other room and I could hear my girls busily doing the dishes and singing the old familiar Primary Children's song:

♫Mother Dear I love you so,
Your happy smiling face.
It's such a joy to look at,
It makes home a lovely place.♫

Lesson learned; Mother was taught!

Happy Mother's Day Everyone!

  3. That is so sweet. I know as a new mother I often had a problem remaining calm in those situations. I hope you had a blessed Mother's Day.

  4. Were any of your girls ever in a church video? The picture on the left looks like a video I have where children are answering questions about the gospel.

  7. A good twist on Mother's Day...not what you taught your children, but what they taught you! You taught them the art of effective subtlety!

  10. That's so sweet! My 3 year old caught me one day. I yelled at him for doing something inappropriate and he looked at me with his huge blue eyes and said, "But Mama, I'm just a little boy!" Crushed. Lesson learned!
