PARABLE OF THE THREE LITTLE PIGS

Once upon a time there were 3 little pigs. The first little pig didn’t want to waste time building a house, so he built his house out of straw because that was the easiest.  He built his house very fast which left him more time to play.

The second little pig was just about as lazy as the first little pig. Playing was all he wanted to do, so he built his house out of sticks. His stick house went up pretty fast which left him more time to play.

The third little pig wanted a strong house with a firm foundation. He built his house out of bricks and cement. It was hard work and took a long time. While the other 2 pigs were singing and dancing, the third little pig was working very hard.

The other 2 little pigs would tease and make fun of the third little pig. They wouldn’t help him; all they wanted to do was have a good time. But when the wolf came, we all know what happened. The first little pigs house of straw couldn’t withstand the huffing and puffing of the big wolf.

The first little pig ran to his brother’s house made of sticks. He ran there for safety and protection from the big bad wolf. BUT, we all know that the second little pigs house of sticks was just as weak as the house of straw.  It took little effort for the wolf to blow the stick house down.

These 2 little pigs were left with no protection from the BIG BAD WOLF.  Without the help of the third little pig, these 2 little guys would be devoured.

Christ taught us: But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you…
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.Luke 6:27, 28, 31,32 KJV

If we are built on a firm foundation, then not only can our friends depend on us when the winds of the adversary blow, but we may even be the source of saving our enemies from the dangerous grasp of Satan.

To help clarify, I’m NOT talking about people who are living in an abusive situation. What my little story is trying to point out is that we CAN pray for our enemies. We CAN help our enemies when they are in need. And we CAN be in control of our own situation and build our home upon the Rock of our Redeemer so when the winds and floods of adversity come, our house will NOT wash away. We can then be a good friend and help those who have been foolish and hopefully bring them to the high ground to enjoy safety and peace with us.

  2. I know this has nothing to do with friendship....but my Daddy used to tell the story of The 3 Little Pigs to me, and then to Jess, our daughter. This brought back such sweet memories of him!!!

    1. Terri, it takes a lot of writing and re-writing and prayer...if I write anything good, it's because of the Lord. Thank you!

  5. I read part one and two and it's so true! i have been very lucky in my friendships most of my life. there was a time when i was a teen where i had friends that weren't good for me. they were good people but were in homes where they were allowed to make choices that weren't best for them. i was too. however i had other friendships to compare that with and i learned early on, the company you keep, makes such an impact on the path you will end up on. i now have my own children and i am very conscious of their friendships and do my best to foster the best ones. i also think that this helps bring you confidence as an individual when your friends allow you to be "you." the other day i gave my son and his friend a ride home. his friend used to be a close one and i had wondered why they drifted. . . this is a really good kid but i could see that he was in the stages of being "cool" and he made a racial joke. it wasn't horrible but my son didn't laugh and then he deflected with something like "yeah, well everyone is a stereotype." it was such a proud moment! i could see that he was unwavering in his morals and wasn't going to be swayed. i realized all that hard work of fostering positive relationships had paid off.

    1. Christine, what a super mommy moment. Thanks for sharing this with us. Sometimes I think we wonder if all our teaching has any effect on our kids. I appreciate you giving us a 'yay' moment. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts...Happy Monday!

  6. Thank you for sharing. It's not only easier to share this message to our children in this context, but for grown ups as well.

    1. Hi Grace, it's always fun when you comment. The 3 pigs are usually brothers, so either way it teaches us about family and friends. Happy Wednesday!

  10. As I get older I realize I have often been piggies #1 and #2. I am learning the importance of building a firm foundation late in life but better late than never I suppose. I agree, they are the key for building lasting relationships.

    1. I guess that's why us 'older' folks are so valuable to the rising generation.

  11. Wonderful post and it gives a lot of food for thought. I find that I have always been like piggy 3 and helping those in need, even when I feel they could have done things differently to help their own situation. There are times I feel like giving up, but I hate letting anyone down. I will think back on this post the next time that happens and I'm sure it will give me the strength to push through and help those in need. Thank you for sharing!

  13. I absolutely believe in lifting others up, and always raising the bar over concluding that they can only stay put. You only have to say it, and remind those down and out, that they can do it. I feel like we've lost this lately in our society.

    1. And...don't we all need lifting up at one time or another? I feel the golden rule is so vital for the success of our society too. Thanks for stopping in Courtney.

  14. It's so important to help others. My sister is going to need a lot of help next month. Her son that has Trisomy 18 has 2 tumors on his kidneys. He starts chemo in October. I'm fortunate enough to have a good family and set of friends to help. We all pitch in. I couldn't imagine how things would be for them if it were any other way. Her older son's/my nephews would get little attention. That would be a hard life for them.

    1. What a marvelous blessing to have family and friends close by to help her. Hugs and blessings for your nephew. I remember reading about his brothers and how important it was for them to get attention too. It's hard to keep things well rounded when there's so much required by one sibling, but it sounds like you have things under control.

  16. God's economy is definitely an upside down look at the world - love those who hurt you, be last so you can be first. But one of His principles isn't upside down - hard work leads to success. Sometimes I don't want to do the hard work required but He sustains me through it and eventually I see His results.
