Chewing Your Food Aids In Digestion

How often do we sit down to a delicious meal only to get up 10 minutes later and realize we didn't even taste the food?  Not only that, but we were hungry again in just a few short hours.

One of the first 'quick fixes' for poor nutrition and poor digestion is chewing your food. Chewing each bite 30-100 times is best. Wow! Who chews their food 100 times? I must confess that I don't. Usually 30-50 chews per-bite is enough for me. There are those who do chew 100 times though...something to think about!

  1. I'll be the first to admit that I'm the absolute worst at properly chewing my food. It started after my daughter was born and I just tried to get what I could in while it was still warm (not very successfully I might add). I'm hoping to slow down. Thanks for the tips!

    1. Liz, Your comment made me chuckle, because it's true, that Mom's have to take on a whole new way of eating. It can get crazy sometimes, but focusing in on maybe just one meal a day where we can sit and relax is a good start.

  2. I'm usually the last to leave the dining table because I'm such a slowpoke when it comes to eating. I guess I just take my time and really enjoy the food. Haha!

  3. It is eaiser for me to relax and eat slowly when having good family conversation. We do try to at least enjoy one meal together even though our family has grown smaller. Thank you for all the great tips. I need to pass them on to my older children.

    1. Bonnie, eating as a family has so many good benifits. We have a hard time getting our 3 teens together for any meal, but we try at least 2-3 times a week to eat as a family. Thanks.

  4. I have such a bad habit of eating standing at the kitchen counter. That must stop because it causes me to eat too much! Thanks for the reminder abut sitting and enjoying my food...and chewing!!

    1. Thanks for your comment Deb. I've got a daughter who likes to eat standing up too. We finally made a 'rule' that if you're eating, you should do it at the table. (Mainly because she was spilling crumbs on the floor...lol).I know you don't do that :)

  5. I need to take the time and chew my food so that I can savor each flavor. As a mom, I have always been in a rush to eat my own meal before the kids were done with theirs.

    1. Lisa, this is hard for me too. It takes practice and reminders. I've set a candle on my dining table and light it whenever I eat to remind me to enjoy the moment.

    1. Cody, Good food is so delicious, I have to remind myself that eating slower and chewing more will just prolong the goodness even more. Thanks for stopping by.
