My Dad, My Hero

My dad, Harold Gividen, was a young B-17 Bomber pilot during WWII.  I know for many of you, WWII seems so long ago, but I was raised hearing stories about the war from my dad.  I always felt so proud of him and the sacrifices he made for our freedom.

Tomorrow marks the day my father's B-17 Bomber airplane was shot down during WWII.  Below is a short write up about this event.

  2. I'm always in awe of people who put their life on the line for our freedom. I think most of us would fight for freedom if forced to, but the people who volunteer, well they're a special breed.

    1. I agree with you Trish...volunteers are a special breed. My Dad and my son both joined the Air Force because they knew it was the right thing for them. Happy Friday!

  4. Holy Cow!!! That is amazing. I so appreciate everything our fathers did to keep our country safe. I also appreciate all the young boys have done and are now doing to keep us safe. Lets hope their efforts are not in vain.

    1. I feel, that whenever our boys go to war against evil, it is never in vain! Whether a nation recognizes their efforts or not, that boy knows and his family knows a sacrifice was made and life has an opportunity to be better for others. Happy Friday Sweetie!

  7. Since I pre-date America entering into WWII, those days don't seem so long ago to me. They are part of my history. And while I was a child at the time, I remember enough bits and pieces to appreciate what it cost us to remain a free people and to have a deep, abiding love for those who gave it to us, then as well as now.

    1. Patriotism is such a part of us isn't it. It's hard to put into words, but you and I understand how important freedom is and the price it takes to keep it. Sandy, thanks for your comment!

  12. A very interesting blog post. I really don't like war but do recognize the bravery of those involved. God was good to your father and his crew, may he be good to you his offspring too, Geoff.
