Motel Mondays With The Family

For the next few months, I'm going to be posting about our life adventures in a motel!2 adults and 3 teens sharing 1 motel room  with 1 bathroom (did I mention 2 of the teens are girls?) There will be humorous posts, drama posts, and posts of insanity....but it will all be fun! Did I mention that CL and I are sharing a motel room with our 3 teens? Find out why HERE

All my Motel Monday posts can be viewed HERE.

Todays Post: Beds

Because we're all sharing one hotel room, the kids are sleeping on the floor.  Some might think this is terrible, but before we moved, our kids slept in the family room on the floor on a regular basis.  In fact our 13 year old son, Buster, hasn't slept in his room since his big brother moved out a year ago.  So sleeping on the floor is a common thing for our kids.

Bedtime conversations:

"I'm sick of sleeping on the floor, I can't wait until I get a real bed again."

"My back hurts.  I've been doing too many cart-wheels and sleeping on the floor too long."

"You always get the good hotel pillows, it's not fair.  I want the good hotel pillows for a mattress. I want 3 and you can have the one left over."

2 Nights ago: "Let's get all the pillows and blankets and make one huge bed."

Last Night:  "I'm not doing that again, you kept kicking me in the head."

Just a note from the Mother:  My kids all talk in their sleep and sometimes get rather violent when dreaming.  CL and I hear all sorts of crazy sounds in the night! One night Tatty (age 14) cried out, "Mommy, Mommy, help me!"  It scared me so bad, I woke up CL and made him go check on her.  She was just dreaming.

The kids beds all folded and put away for the day...

Notice the little guy on top?  Sometimes ya just can't do without a friendly face in a strange place.  He belongs to our 15 year old Joka!

I had a little stuffed bear that I slept with until I got married.

Did you have a favorite stuffed animal or blanket when you were growing up?

  1. I bet you can't wait to get into your new home. I am a light sleeper and just having everyone in the same room would keep me awake.

Can't wait to hear what you do to keep them entertained during the day.

  5. haha this is all very familiar to me. I, together with my other siblings are all used to sleep in the floor. Even the afternoon naps, we normally take them sleeping on the floor in our living room - of course with a blanket laid on the floor (or sometimes none during very hot days). Those were fun times! I miss my siblings...

    1. I was thinking of you while writing this post...knowing that you know what it's like! Are you the only one in the US?

  6. I used to have one, but when I moved to CA it was left behind :( I have a favorite blanket though, my mother made it for me so whenever I'm sick or feeling down I curl up in it :)

Love the conversations , those are too funny!! by the way I used to sleep talk to my brother all the time. My Mother swore up and down we would literally hold an entire conversation with each other. Too funny!

  7. I don't think it is horrible that the kids sleep on the floor. They will probably remember these times as some of their favorite memories when they reach adult hood and sleeping on the floor is an adventure not cruelty to children LOL!

    1. It all started a bazillion years ago when we would have Friday Fun Night. Every Friday, we would all sleep on the floor and watch movies til we fell asleep.

  8. Oh my goodness! You really are rising above most people's limits! I had to go back to read why and at least its for a good reason and temporary. Sleeping on the floor, with our without the stuffed animal..not so fun.

  9. Actually, sometimes, even at MY age, I'd prefer sleeping on the floor. Well, let me put it this way instead---I lay on the floor to watch the movies or DVDs. Sometimes, I have been known to fall asleep right on the spot. It is good for the aching muscles [except for when you do too many cart wheels *kidding*.

And yes, someone friendly and stuffed and silent and a good listener is always good to have at your side. Friendly? Stuffed? SILENT? and a Good Listener? That leaves Bud out. hehehehehe [mine was a stuffed tiger]

  11. Ugh. I'm glad you have good humor, because I WOULD NOT! I loved this sheet that I slept with as a kid. I still have it and STILL us it. It truly is my favorite because it is so soft.

    1. Cynthia, I'd never thought of a sheet, but having a soft sheet would be so comforting! How cool that you still have it!

  12. Oh, the little blue bear is so precious. Their "beds" are much neater than how I leave mine in the morning!!! ;-) And, no I didn't have anything I slept with....except, my brother in the room!!!

  13. I had a favorite blanket. My mom got rid of it just before I got married. ;( So I took over the blanket that Ben's Grandma made us when we got married. I now can't sleep without it! lol.

  14. Funny my daughter has a 14 year old and for Easter I gave her a Aroma Lamb!! She sleeps with it and her Hubby!!
I don't have a problem with kids sleeping on the floor, doesn't sound comfortable to me, almost like camping!

  15. I think sleeping on the floor is good for kids....or at least it's not bad. My 2 youngest sons slept on my bedroom floor for 3 months after their Dad died. That's where they preferred. I think your kids will look back on this time as an unforgettable adventure.

  16. It's admirable how you're able to rise above the situation and just laugh :). The kids are sure to remember this for years to come.

  17. We did a lot of sleeping on the floor when we moved over seas. I never really had a second thought about it. My kids never complained. I guess they figured if mom and dad could do it they could not complain. I use to have a favorite pillow I slept with until I got married. My husband baught a new one for me and I though it was so sweet I had to give up my old pillow.
