Motel Mondays With The Family

For the next few months, I'm going to be posting about our life adventures in a motel! 2 adults and 3 teens sharing 1 motel room  with 1 bathroom (did I mention 2 of the teens are girls?) There will be humorous posts, drama posts, and posts of insanity....but it will all be fun! Did I mention that CL and I are sharing a motel room with our 3 teens? Find out why HERE

(All my past Motel Monday posts can be viewed HERE.)

Welcome to week 13  Topic: FOOD

Several of you have asked what we have been doing as far as our eating situation goes...let me tell ya, eating out is getting really boring.  But we have been rescued on a regular basis by some pretty awesome folks!

First of all is my married daughter Lulu. She lives just 5 miles down the road and has rescued us with some of her cooking plus every Friday she has taken the kids to her apartment so they could spend the night and give CL and I some 'quiet time'.

Our next rescue came the week we moved into the hotel. Leaders from our new ward (congregation) came by to see us and offered to organize home cooked meals to be brought in 2X a week.

Our Ward Relief Society is made up of the most loving and caring women.  Every Tuesday and Thursday for the past 13 weeks we've had delicious meals ---HOME COOKED meals, brought to us. There were no complaints and these women loved the opportunity to help make our stay in the hotel a bit easier for us.

NOTE: I learned a long time ago that most people love to serve but don't know how to be served. If I could pass one thing on to all of you it would to be gracious receivers when someone serves you.

Also, another regular rescue has been our General Contractors...

Yes, you read that right. Our builders are a husband and wife team. (They also have 6 kids ages 15 - 3). They live about 20 miles from where we're building and they have had a standing invitation for us to come every Sunday for dinner.  We have been to their home so many times and have been catered to with a delicious meal everytime.  Lisa loves to cook and her husband Mike is great in the kitchen too.  (In an upcoming post I'll be showing some pictures of them in their kitchen).

With all these blessings, from the Lord, I can't complain about hotel eating.

NOW for some motherly observations...

Daughters bring food and sons expect to be fed.

Even our daughter who live in other states have brought homemade cookies and treat when they've come to visit us while we've been living in the motel. BUT whenever our sons, who live just down the street, have come to visit they rummage through our little fridge and pantry until they find something to eat!  I love both of these observations!

Just a little added bit of information: this might possibly and hopefully be the last 'Motel Mondays' post...Wahoo!  Look for updates as they unfold!

  2. Goodness...wouldn't it be great if this was your last Motel Monday post? I know you are anxious to be getting into your new home, but it is nice that others are taking you under their wing while you are living in the Motel. It's funny how boys are always looking/expecting food when the go to mama's house...no matter where that house might be. ~Hugs, xoxo

    1. It was so surprising that these boys ever found anything to eat, but they seemed to know when we had food around...lol

  3. I've enjoyed your Motel Monday's. You need to have them printed into a little book for each surviving member of your family...ha! ha! Looking forward to pics of your new home...completely finished...and furnished!! So glad you've had sweet friends who wanted to serve...and I agree completely...it's difficult to be the one being served. A couple recently came to Jack and me and gave us a little something to help us out during his unemployment....it was so hard for me to accept it, but the man told me to not rob him of a blessing!!! God is good...but I so often interfere!!!

    1. Deb, you are so fun...I like the book idea.

It's kinda hard to serve if no one will let us...you were such a blessing to that couple.

  6. I can see in your future a lot of house guests for dinner...so you can repay everyone's kindness. How sweet is this? Gives me faith in the human race.

  10. Oh my goodness, we talk about the inability to be served all the time! So many people want to serve and do good things, but when it comes to ourselves it's so hard. Letting people help us is difficult!

  11. That's so lovely you have so many people around to help out right now. Eating out is fun, but you're right, it gets old. And isn't it funny about boys and food? I have two younger brothers and whenever they come to my house almost the first thing they do is start scrounging up food. I love to feed people, so it's okay with me :)

  13. Great observations and I agree with you about being a gracious receiver. It is the hardest job but it is one of the most important for us to learn.
